This personal series is an homage to water itself. Water serves a number of essential functions to keep us alive. It is an inorganic, transparent, tasteless, odorless and nearly colorless chemical substance, which is the main constituent of Earth's hydrosphere and the fluids of all known living organisms. Water regulates our internal body temerature and is a vital nutrient to the life of every cell. Water has always been a subject of works of art. From phrehistoric times until today. Humans depicted water as a wavy line, a stylized image that is easily recognizable. In a historical context it symbolises purity and cleansing, this is apparant in mainly ancient and renaissance pieces, especially when used in paintings of deities. In religious ceremonies it finds use in purification rituals and depending on how the water is depicted it can change the entire mood of a scenery and has inspired artists throughout centuries with pieces such as "The Great Wave off Kanagawa", a woodblock print created around 1830 by japanese artist Katushika Hokusai or the "Medieval fountain of youth" by Lucas Cranach the Elder.
